Kannyu (貫入) is a centuries-old Japanese ceramic technique where the glaze contracts at a different rate to the clay during firing, creating a delicate web of fine lines across the surface. Far from a flaw, kannyu is considered a mark of artisan character — a deliberate expression of wabi-sabi (侵び寂び), the Japanese aesthetic of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence.
