Kutani-yaki (九谷焼) is one of Japan’s most celebrated ceramic traditions, originating in the Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture in the mid-17th century. It is distinguished by its thick overglaze enamel, bold use of colour — traditionally red, green, yellow, purple, and dark blue — and hand-painted motifs drawn from nature, including birds, flowers, and landscapes. Seikou’s studio continues this tradition today, combining classical technique with a contemporary sensibility that has made their pieces sought after both in Japan and worldwide.
