Mokusei (木爎) is the Japanese name for Osmanthus Fragrans, a hardwood prized across Japan for its exceptionally fine grain and natural warmth. In Japanese craft tradition, wooden tableware — ki-zara (木皿) — has been part of everyday dining for centuries, valued for its tactile quality and the way it ages beautifully with use. The translucent blue finish on this plate is applied by hand, a technique that honours the wood rather than concealing it.
