Jet black, silky-soft, and carrying the quiet authority of a genuine Japanese family crest — this is a kimono with a history. The Niwa Vintage Japanese Silk Kimono Robe is a real silk kimono from our pre-owned vintage collection, in excellent condition. Full-cut sleeves, a half-length cream lining, and small kamon (family crest) details at the shoulders. Full ankle length, worn left over right. Obi sash not included — we’ve styled it with a light blue obi, but a red obi would be equally beautiful. One in stock only.

The kamon (家紋) — Japanese family crest — has been used in Japan since the Heian period to identify noble families and samurai clans. The crest on this kimono is Kenmokkou (幯木瓜), a pattern derived from the shape of a large bird’s nest — such as a stork or crane — and traditionally worn as a prayer for the prosperity of descendants. Each kamon is a living piece of Japanese genealogy, as personal and meaningful as a coat of arms.
