歌川広重 (Utagawa Hiroshige, 1797–1858) was one of Japan's greatest ukiyo-e masters — the art of the "floating world". The Horikiri Iris Garden (堀切の花菖蒲), from his celebrated One Hundred Famous Views of Edo series, 1857, is a masterclass in colour and calm.
