The Heijyo Vintage Japanese Silk Kimono Robe is made in Japan, full ankle length with traditional full-cut sleeves and a contrasting cream and blue lining. Styled here with a navy blue obi — not included, but it suits it perfectly. Vintage pre-owned, very good condition with a few small stains on the lining only — reflected in the price. Heijyo (平城) is the ancient name for Nara — Japan’s first permanent capital, established in 710 AD. Before Kyoto, before Tokyo, there was Nara: a city of great Buddhist temples, sacred deer, and the earliest flowering of Japanese court culture. It was in Nara that Japan’s first silk weaving traditions were refined, brought from China and Korea and transformed into something distinctly Japanese. The vertical stripe — tate-jima (縦縞) — is one of the oldest and most enduring patterns in Japanese textile design, associated with dignity, precision, and the quiet confidence of tradition.
