Kabazaiku (樺皮細工) is a traditional Japanese craft that originated in Kakunodate, Akita Prefecture, over 200 years ago. Designated as a National Traditional Craft of Japan, it involves the careful application of wild cherry bark (山桜 — yamazakura) to wooden forms. The cherry blossom inlay on this set connects two of Japan’s most beloved symbols — the yamazakura tree, whose bark forms the caddy, and the sakura blossom carved into its surface — the same tree, celebrated twice. Each piece is individually handcrafted, meaning no two are ever identical.
