The nakiri is a Japanese chopping knife, similar to the usubaand ideal for chopping vegetables. It has a symmetrical 50:50 double edged blade and a unique hammered texture, or tsuchi-me. These traditional Japanese kitchen knives also have a beautiful wood grain effect on the blade called senbon kurokaki, which means one in a thousand black persimmon trees, regarded as the most valuable wood and were presented to Japanese emperors in ancient times.
