The Great Wave off Kanagawa Japanese Print.
Japanese woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai. It is Hokusai's most famous work and one of the most recognisable works of art in the world! Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist and printmaker of the Edo period who specialised in Ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese art and a collaborative system of printing where the artist, carver, printer, and publisher engaged in division of labour.
Hokusai is best known as the author of the woodblock print series ‘Thirty-six view of Mount Fuji’. This is the most famous painting from the series and depicts an enormous wave threatening three boats off the coast in Sagami Bay whilst Mount Fuji rises majestically in the background!
