The Ryogoku Japanese Print is based on an original Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, 1797-1858. Hiroshige was born in the shogun's capital of Edo, now Tokyo and is considered to be the last great master of the woodblock or ukiyo-e. Ukiyoe is a genre of Japanese art and a collaborative system of printing where the artist, carver, printer, and publisher engaged in division of labour. In the Japan of his day, his prints fostered a new and far reaching appreciation for nature in art, and in the west, these superb Japanese woodblock prints influenced artists such as Whistler, Cezanne and Gaughin. For this classic Japanese print, Hiroshige depicted the Ryogoku Bridge in Toto Ryogoku, the Eastern capital of Japan and was part of the series ‘Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji’.

Made using a matt 250gsm conservation digital paper, a very versatile high quality paper made from acid and chlorine free wood pulp. Ryogoku Japanese Print is guaranteed to make an ideal and affordable gift for someone with an appreciation of Japanese art!
